Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 launched with new mobile-friendly features
Version 12 of both suites add mobile-friendly features and a number of new editing tools, but critically remain standalone applications, allowing users to purchase them outright as opposed to signing up for an ongoing cloud subscription.
Both Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements add a new mobile-friendly Elements Mobile Albums service, which is powered by the Adobe Revel app and allows users to view, edit and share both photos and videos on smartphone, tablet and desktop, with all changes being synced automatically so users can switch seamlessly from one device to another. The app is free for up to 50 photo or video uploads per month.
Photoshop Elements 12 also gains a number of new tools: content-aware move makes it easier to move objects within a photo, with the program filling in resultant empty space. A new Pet Eye Correction tool makes it possible to correct flash photography in pet eyes, something not possible using the existing red-eye correction tools.
Auto Smart Tone attempts to learn from user preferences to provide intelligent one-click adjustments based on previous editing history. Also added are Quick Frames, Effects and Textures, guided edits, straighten tool and the option to share a photo directly to Twitter. Finally, Mac users gain 64-bit support for improved performance.
Adobe Premiere Elements 12 also gains the guided edit and Auto Smart Tone tools, but also comes with more than 50 musical scores that automatically fit the duration of clips, another 250 sound effects, four new filters for a more Hollywood style look and motion tracking support for graphics, text and effects that can move with a selected object.
Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and Adobe Premiere Elements 12 are both available now as free trial downloads for Windows and Mac. Both products have a MSRP of $99.99, with upgrade pricing at $79.99 each. Users can also purchase both products in a discounted bundle for $149.99, or $119.99 as an upgrade.
